Scholarships

First-Generation Scholarships

Open to majors in the Department of Transborder Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies (TCLS and formerly the Department of Chicano/a Studies).

Applications for 2009-10 scholarships are due Friday May 15.

First-generation college students enrolled in undergraduate degree programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences may apply for approximately $9,500 in scholarships. Scholarship applications are available each spring and scholarships are awarded and distributed for the fall and spring semesters.

There are several different scholarships with varied application criteria. Only one application is required for all scholarships. Students will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.

The scholarships listed below are open to students in all majors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (approximate scholarship amounts for 2009-10).

Please review the criteria for each scholarship before completing the application to be sure that you meet the requirements.

  • Carole and Robert Behrens First-Generation Scholarship (one scholarship of $1,000)
  • CLAS Alumni First-Generation Scholarship (one scholarship of $3,000)
  • CLAS First-Generation Scholarships (three scholarships of $600 each)
  • Dean’s Advancement Council First-Generation Scholarship (one scholarship of $600)
  • Al and Viola Madrid Endowed Scholarship (one scholarship of $1,200)
  • McKee Family Scholarship (one scholarship of $900)
  • John and Susan Rockefeller First-Generation Scholarship (one scholarship at $1,200) 

There are also First-Generation scholarships available for students in specific majors
 

Wells Fargo Scholars in Business and in Transborder Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies Scholarship

The W. P. Carey School of Business and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences select four students for the Wells Fargo Scholarships each year, two students from the School of Business and two either from the minor or degree programs offered by the Department of Transborder Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies. Applications are available at the Undergraduate Office (BA 109) in the School of Business, and the Department of Transborder Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies, Coor Hall (6633).
